At first glance, it would have appeared that Walt Whitman had spent his working life at this building in Bolton, wheras, in fact Whitman, never even visited the UK, let alone Bolton... so on closer examination of the plaque, it can be seen that it actually celebrates the founder of the Eagle Street College, and he, Mr J.W. Wallace dedicated the college to the works of Walt Whitman, and spent his working life here!
But there are many references to Walt Whitman at various sites throughout the town of Bolton, so there is a real connection, to this very day.

Although our customer moved from Co Wexford to Bolton, apparently Walt Whitman never even visited the town, in spite of all of the mentiones he gets here.
And although this building with the Walt Whitman plaque may be a little run down, it certainly has some elegant character
